Bailey - Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, June 1893 - September 1893

About the Project

What was it about the Mountain States that drew Vernon Bailey back to it trip after trip? As chief field naturalist for the United States Biological Survey his goals were to observe the plant and wildlife ecosystems and collect specimens. Did the natural boundaries imposed by the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Cascades and Sierra Nevada ranges to the west create unique conditions and ecosystems? Please join us in transcribing Bailey's field notes and learn more about this region of the United States.
