Western Union Telegraph Expedition - William H. Dall
About the Project
Young scientists can find themselves saddled with the more mundane tasks of a major project such as the Western Union Telegraph Expedition. Twenty year old William Dall (1845 - 1927) shared his dismay with the Smithsonian's Assistant Secretary Spencer Baird in the early days of the expedition. Help us transcribe his correspondence to see how his assignments changed and his findings altered the understanding of mollusk life and habitats in the cold waters of the North Pacific.
