What do you do when you find yourself far from home, in a harsh land and climate with your supplies almost gone? Do you follow local guides across the Siberian “tundras?” Explorer George Kennan of the Western Union Telegraph Expedition’s (1865-1867) Asiatic division penned two reports describing the team’s progress in 1866. The mission of finding land suited for placement of telegraph poles and scientific exploration of the Asiatic biome did not falter. Join other volunpeers in transcribing Kennan’s reports to learn how the Asiatic division conquered these challenges, replenished their resources and accomplished their mission.
