Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting, September 25, 1978

About the Project

Who owns a specimen or an object if an individual finds it on federal land? In 1976, a few individuals discovered a meteorite in Old Woman Mountains of Southern California which is known to be the second largest in the United States. The individuals who discovered it filed a lawsuit in 1977 in order to obtain rights to the meteorite. Their lawsuit was dismissed by the Federal District Court in Los Angeles; however, they did not give up the fight to file an appeal. Please help us to transcribe the Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting for September 25, 1978 and find out what happens in the section “Disposition of the Old Woman Mountains.”
