Devra Kleiman - Brazil field notes, May - June 1984

About the Project

How would you advocate for a species on the verge of extinction? Golden lion tamarins reached endangered status in the 1980's due to dramatic loss of habitat in the forests of eastern Brazil. Conservation biologist Devra Kleiman pioneered the effort to reintroduce captive-born tamarins to the native habitats. Success depended on a holistic, multi-pronged approach. Join us in transcribing these field notes consisting largely of her film log from the spring of 1984. Your contributions will help the visual documentation Kleiman used so effectively as part of her efforts.
