Devra Kleiman - Brazil field notes, August 1987

About the Project

Just like the saying “it takes a village to raise a child,” it takes a village to save a species. This field book is personal notes of conservation biologist Devra Kleiman during her 1987 trek around Brazil, building a network of rural zoos and conservations centers, farmers suffering from wildfires, and uncooperative government officials. Dive into this leg of her journey to save the endangered golden lion tamarins and help us recover her “in the moment” account of the successes and misadventures she encountered.
