Notes for Yasuo Kuniyoshi's Autobiography
About the Project
Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month by transcribing Yasuo Kuniyoshi's notes for his unpublished autobiography. Kuniyoshi, a painter, printmaker, and photographer, was born in Okayama, Japan in 1889. He came to the United States in 1906, and lived and worked first in Los Angeles and then in New York after 1910. Kuniyoshi was active in social organizations, especially Japanese American organizations, such as the Japanese American Committee for Democracy, and took an active role in the war effort during World War II.
