Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting held on May 3, 1982

About the Project

In the spring of 1982, real progress was being made on the planned construction of two new museums located just south of the original Smithsonian Institution Building. Secretary S. Dillon Ripley reported on this progress in the May meeting of the Board of Regents, noting an anonymous gift of art valued at $50 million, an expected donation from the Middle East, and strong prospects from North Africa and Asia. Help us transcribe these minutes and learn more about the behind the scenes work that takes an idea for a museum and turns it into a reality for people around the country and the world to enjoy.
