About the Project

This collection consists of material relating to Francis Gary Powers's flying career in the Air Force, Central Intelligence Agency, and later pursuits. In 1960, Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union and imprisoned. This was known as the "U-2 incident," and Powers recorded much of his experiences, including a prison journal, along with correspondence, and other materials. Help us transcribe this material to increase access to and understandings of this period in American history.
