Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting held on May 7, 1984
About the Project
How would you respond if a countess offered to give your museum a villa in Italy? In May of 1984, the Board of Regents and Secretary S. Dillon Ripley were considering whether to accept the offer of the Countess Mona von Bismark's villa on the Isle of Capri in southern Italy. The countess, a benefactor of the Smithsonian, had died in 1983 and the Mona Bismark Foundation then approached the Smithsonian to discuss the possibilities. Find out more about the concerns of the Regents about this numerous other matters as you work together with other volunteers to transcribe the full session of this Smithsonian Board of Regents meeting.
