Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting held on May 11, 1992

About the Project

To put it frankly, the financial planning section in this May 1992 Smithsonian Board of Regents report is “grim.” The group discussed potential solutions to cut the budget, including limited summer hours, furloughs, and even the possibility of closing one or more days a week. While the planning for the National Museum of the American Indian was safe, other new projects, like the restoration of the National Postal Museum building and the acquisition of more land for the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center were put on the back burner. Join a group of volunpeers in transcribing the discussions surrounding a tough financial year in a steadily growing organization.
