About the Project

Lilian Swann Saarinen (1912-1995) was a sculptor and architect who studied at the Art Students League with Alexander Archipenko in 1928, Albert Stewart and Heninz Warneke from 1934-1936, and with Carl Milles at the Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1936-1940. While at Cranbrook Academy, she met and married architect Eero Saarinen and worked with his design group on projects including the "Gateway Arch" in St. Louis. She was also an accomplished skier and was on the US Olympic Ski Team in 1936. Help transcribe her diaries to learn about her life, education, and experiences
