About the Project

Emmy Lou Packard (1914-1998) was a painter, printmaker, and muralist in San Francisco, California. Packard lived in Mexico City in the late 1920s, and there met Diego Rivera. In 1940-1941, she worked as Rivera's painting assistant on his fresco for the World's Fair in San Francisco, after which she spent a year in Mexico living with Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Packard is known for her work in watercolor, oil, mosaic, laminated plastic, concrete, and printmaking. She received commissions throughout her life for murals, woodcuts, and mosaics.
