In addition, Lieutenant Francis Winslow was detailed by the United States Navy to assist in the care of the Mollusks collections, having previously been involved in the Mollusks exhibit at the 1883 International Fisheries Exhibition in London. The addition of Lieutenant Winslow to the department might explain his three letters that were attached to head curator Dall's annual report.
