Proceedings of the Board of Regents Meeting held on September 21, 1992

About the Project

In the fall of 1992, the Secretary McAdams was briefing the Institution's Board of Regents about a variety of projects and activities, a typical part of every Board of Regents meeting. This time the briefing included three particularly notable projects. Through the gift of George Small's estate in 1988, a remarkable opportunity to expand the Smithsonian's research in biodiversity and climate issues in Africa. The Mpala Research Center was established in Kenya as a result, and significant progress was being made to make the center fully operational. In Alaska, an Arctic Studies Center was being set up in partnership with the Anchorage Museum, spearheaded by the National Museum of Natural History's Department of Anthropology. And in Washington, DC, planning for the 150th Anniversary of the United States National Museum was underway. Is your interest piqued?
