Doris Sidney Blake - Other Correspondence, A-H

Doris Sidney Blake was an excellent record keeper. And this is coming from a bunch of archivists. She was so good that we now not only get glimpses into her relationships with her mother, Smithsonian entomologist Doris Holmes Blake, and her father, USDA botanist Sidney Fay Blake, but this project also invites us into her connections with friends and other family throughout different phases of her life. In one letter, an adolescent Blake is telling her grandmother about her new kitten. Fast forward a decade and change, and she’s writing to her grandmother about her dates with three men named Dick, a David, and an Alec. Join a group of volunpeers in transcribing Doris Sidney Blake’s correspondence, which will give researchers an idea about what it was like to grow up in the ‘30s and ‘40s. Funding for the digitization of Blake's correspondence, and its inclusion into the Transcription Center, was provided by the Smithsonian Women's Committee.
