Doris Sidney Blake - Other Correspondence, I-Z and unidentified

About the Project

Finally, we get to meet Dolores, Doris Sidney Blake’s best friend. In past transcription projects, Smithsonian entomologist Doris Holmes Blake wrote to her daughter about visits from Dolores, but this project invites us into the relationship between the two young women, from their teenage years to their time in college. Dolores shares stories about what she learned in classes, the boys she liked, how much weight she lost, her favorite songs (which she transcribed) on the radio, and more. Be a part of a group of volunpeers that is transcribing Doris Sidney Blake’s correspondence, which sheds light on the experiences of girls/young women in the ‘30s and ‘40s. Tip: Funding for the digitization of Blake's correspondence, and its inclusion into the Transcription Center, was provided by the Smithsonian Women's Committee.
