Doris Sidney Blake - School Papers

About the Project

If this isn’t the first project that you’ve transcribed from the Doris Holmes Blake Papers, then you know the Blake family saved everything. In this project, you’ll find Doris Sidney Blake’s report cards from grade school, high school, and college, commencement programs, some short stories and poetry she wrote and illustrated, and her tuition receipt from Radcliffe College, which happens to include USDA botanist Sidney Fay Blake’s salary. Join a group of volunpeers in transcribing the thoughts and workloads of young students in the ‘30s and the costs of college in the ‘40s. Funding for the digitization of Blake's correspondence, and its inclusion into the Transcription Center, was provided by the Smithsonian Women's Committee.
