Doris Holmes Blake - Correspondence with Sidney Fay Blake, 1938-1942

About the Project

While USDA botanist Sidney Fay Blake worked through the summers in Washington, D. C., his wife, Smithsonian entomologist Doris Holmes Blake, was in Stoughton, Massachusetts with their daughter. A prolific correspondent, Doris's letters and cards ensured her husband stayed up to date on their daily activities. The progress of house repairs, daughter Doris Sidney Blake's first permanent, visits with colleagues and friends, even trips to the dentist. Join a group of volunpeers in transcribing this project and get a glimpse into the life of a couple of scientists and their family in the summers before the United States entry into World War II.
