Doris Holmes Blake - Correspondence with Sidney Fay Blake, September 1945 - August 1951

About the Project

Though WWII is now over, the day-to-day of the Blakes doesn't change much in the first few years—summers in Stoughton are still comprised of doing yard work, maintaining their rental property, and asking after Doris's garden at home in Virginia. Privations that we can sympathize with (like toilet paper shortages and rising costs of food and clothing) will begin to give way for post-war prosperity. But new days are on the horizon of their personal lives: young Doris begins her higher education at Radcliffe College, like her mother before her, with all the excitement and heartache that college years entail; a mother-daughter trip to Europe in the summer of 1950 while Sid works in Sweden; and the difficult realities of growing older. Join us and fellow volunpeers for another glimpse of the Blakes' lives!
