This document records a bond of $1,854.50 from Charles Crouch to Thomas Gadsden dated February 16, 1838 in Charleston, South Carolina. Thomas Gadsden (1796–1871) was the grandson of prominent Charleston resident and American Revolutionary War Patriot Charles Gadsden. Charles built and operated Gadsden's Wharf in Charleston, the primary disembarkation point for over 100,000 enslaved Africans brought to the Americas. Charles W.
