Doris Holmes Blake - Correspondence with Arthur Lake Holmes and Lucy Wentworth Holmes, undated (Folder 3 of 4)

About the Project

Doris Holmes Blake is famous both for her devotion to natural history and her unpaid entomological work for the Smithsonian, after she was forced to resign when her husband became a government employee. At the time, the law precluded more than one member of the same immediate family from government employment. Even if you already know those facts, have you ever wondered about the origins of both? This batch of correspondence between Doris and her parents reveals her father's own interest in the natural world, and are sprinkled with his observations on the fauna in his vicinity, and also references Doris's initial appointment to her government position. Join your fellow volunpeers to learn more about Doris through her letters with her parents!
