Edward William Nelson - Florida, 1929-1930

About the Project

Within the Smithsonian, it's often taken for granted that the work curators, archivists, librarians, scientists, preservation and conservation specialists, and other staff is valuable—but how often are those individual contributions noticed or celebrated outside of the institution? This field notebook of Edward Nelson's, which has lost its cover, doesn't bear Nelson's address in case of loss or direct the finder to send it to his office at the Bureau of Biological Survey. Instead, it asks that it be sent to the Cosmos Club, a private social club for men and women who have made personal contributions to humanity's collective knowledge. Nelson, as a member, was clearly recognized for his tireless efforts to increase our understanding of the natural world. Celebrate him with us by contributing to this notebook's transcription!
