Journal kept by Bailey on field trip to Wyoming and New Mexico, March 15-June 1906

About the Project

Wolves and humans have had an complicated relationship over the past several centuries. Early in the 20th century, wolf populations in the western U. S. were declining to the point of extinction. In 1906, the Department of the Interior sent Vernon Bailey to observe the methods of killing wolves being used at the United States' Canadian and Mexican borders. Learn about this part of the American experience by helping us transcribe the firsthand observations recorded in Bailey's journal.
