Journal of Richard E. Blackwelder, West Indies, vol. 4

About the Project

Richard Blackwelder was awarded a Walter Rathbone Bacon Traveling Scholarship from 1935 to 1938 to conduct scientific studies outside of the United States. He focused his studies on the Staphylinid beetles and other insects native to the West Indies. In this, his fourth field book, he describes his work on the islands of St. Lucia, Martinique and Dominica located north of Venezuela in the late spring of 1936. His notes include the methods that were used to make his collections, geographic locations, elevations and more. Join us in transcribing this field book to make it more accessible to today's scientists and researchers.
