Certified Proofs of Connecticut (Box 2)

About the Project

In cities including Hartford and Stamford in Connecticut, currency was issued from national banks - but not before being certified by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. A practice from 1863, certified proofs allowed the BEP to ensure intaglio printing plates were accurate before currency was printed. Learn more about the details that distinguish currency from different series while transcribing these proof sheets.
