About the Project

Richard Blackwelder, an entomologist from Stanford University, received a scholarship from 1935 to 1938 to conduct scientific studies outside of the United States. During this time, he collected and studied insects in the West Indies, especially beetles. Volume 5 of Blackwelder's field notes document research in Montserrat, Antigua, and Saint Kitts from 13 July to 27 October 1936 to study insects, especially beetles. Blackwelder provides descriptions of flora and fauna of his surrounding environment, elevations, weather information, abundance of insect genera is noted when applicable. He also described how his specimens were obtained. Join us in transcribing this field book and making it more accessible to today's scientists and researchers. Difficulty: low.
