Journal, Persian Gulf, 1948

About the Project

How would you go about observing and collecting fish in the Persian Gulf? Donald S. Erdman kept a daily log of his work in 1948, collecting specimens for the United States National Museum’s Division of Fishes. This rich narrative includes details and sketches ranging from individual fish collected to geographic locations and weather conditions plus details about other sea life in the Gulf and Jeddah regions during the spring and summer of 1948. Experience some of this historic area and its abundant sea life through Erdman’s eyes by helping us to transcribe this journal.
