Charles Francis Hall Diary Volume 2, 1860

Charles Francis Hall became one of the earliest northern explorers, making three trips to Greenland in search of a northern route. During his trips he spent most of his time living amongst the Inuit Eskimos studying their culture, lives and language. In return the Inuit taught Hall the survival skills required to live in this cold, harsh environment. His diaries produced some of the first know studies of Greenland inhabitants as well as the first translation of their native language into English. Hall made three exploratory trips to Greenland, dying of mysterious circumstances on his third trip.
