Donald S. Erdman - Account Book

About the Project

If you ran out of blank journals in the middle of a collecting expedition, what would you do? Donald S. Erdman might have made do with his account ledger. Working in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea in 1948, he used this account book to track expenses and sketch numerous fish collected or seen during this trip, often annotated with genus, collection number and other details such as locality or gender. Help us transcribe this Erdman account book to connect these sketches with the specimens he sent back to the United States National Museum. You might also want to read first-hand descriptions of the collecting work in his Journal, Persian Gulf, 1948 or review the transcriptions submitted by other volunteers.
