National Museum of Natural History, Division of Meteorites Correspondence - Australia

About the Project

How do you gather information about meteors when the meteor showers are happening on the other side of the world? The National Museum of Natural History’s Division of Meteorites built a network of correspondents to achieve its global outreach. The number of correspondents blossomed in the 1960s and 1970s. This set of correspondence and memoranda focuses on Australian correspondents. Dive inside the folders of this division’s collection correspondence and see how Smithsonian staff identified specimens, uncover meteorite samples the Smithsonian looked for, and discover where mysteries of the universes landed!
