Asbury Dickens, Secretary of the Columbian Institute, writes to C. S. Rafinesque, Esquire, Professor of Botany and Natural History at the Transylvania University, Lexington, Kentucky professing the Columbian Institute's admiration for his promotion of the sciences in the United States. Dated 6 June 1820. Rafinesque's field book of his 1818 trip to Kentucky prior to assuming his professorial duties is also available in the Transcription Center.
