Rose Collom Correspondence

About the Project

Combine your dream job and amazing landscapes. What would that look like? A botanist and plant collector during the first half of the twentieth century, Rose Collom (1870-1956) was the first paid botanist of the Grand Canyon National Park. Her work in Arizona and the southwestern United States made for productive collaborations with other botanists including United States National Herbarium curator Joseph Nelson Rose. Some of her specimen discoveries now reflect her impact in their scientific names such as Dudleya collomiae and Mentzelia collomaie. In addition to her specimens at the United States National Herbarium, others are held by the New York Botanical Garden and the Arizona State University Herbarium. Please help us transcribe this correspondence between Rose Collom and Joseph Nelson Rose so we can better understanding the context in which this work was occurring.
