Mary Agnes Chase - Brazil Letters, 1929 - 1930

About the Project

Maybe Rio de Janeiro stirs images of a mountaintop view overlooking the city, Carnival or the most recent World Cup competition. However, for Mary Agnes Chase in 1929 and 1930, the city's botanical center Jardim Botânico held her attention. This portion of her Brazil correspondence discusses her work at the Jardim Botânico while enroute to Caparaó, and while at Viçosa [Minas Gerais]. Two of the letters appear to be incomplete. Join with other digital volunteers and help to make Chase's field notes more accessible to today's researchers and scholars.
