A.S. Hitchcock- Asia, 1921, Georgia and Florida, Panama and Ecuador, 1923

About the Project

Already looking to escape the cold weather? Go globe-trotting with A.S. Hitchcock's 1921 photo album documenting his travel through Asia, South America, and the southeastern United States. Hitchcock, a botanist with the United States Department of Agriculture and the Custodian of Grasses in the Division of Plants at the United States National Museum (now the National Museum of Natural History), took photos of his extensive collecting trips--from the streets of Shanghai, to sailing vessels, to bird reserves and gardens worldwide. Help us transcribe the captions while you view these incredible photographs!
