George Sprague Myers- Journal, 1929

About the Project

Could you name a fish that is native to the American Southwest? Maybe the West Coast? Discover fish native to these regions with George Sprague Myers, an ichthyologist and head of the Division of Fishes at the United States National Museum (now the National Museum of Natural History), who specialized in the geographic locations of animal life. Myers' 1929 journal of his trip through Texas, Arizona, and California, includes specimen lists, environmental details, and travel notes, with maps and travel ephemera (such as business cards for hotels and service stations with "modern rest rooms"). Join other volunteers in transcribing Myers' journal and help make his work available for modern-day scientists and researchers!
