Have you ever wondered what it is like to be an arctic explorer? Wonder no more and join explorer Charles Francis Hall in 1862 on his journey to the north, exploring western Greenland.
Charles Francis Hall became one of the earliest northern explorers, making three trips to Greenland in search of a northern route. During his trips he spent most of his time living amongst the Inuit Eskimos studying their culture, lives and language. In return the Inuit taught Hall the survival skills required to live in this cold, harsh environment. His diaries produced some of the first know studies of Greenland inhabitants as well as the first translation of their native language into English. Hall made multiple exploratory trips to Greenland, dying of mysterious circumstances on his third trip. Please note that some entries go beyond June 1862 because this is how the collection was donated in the late 1800s. Your transcriptions will help us identify any mismarked records.
