Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Autograph Book, 1923

About the Project

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, established in 1870 at the Fifteenth Street Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC., was America's first public black high school. Known as the M Street High School from 1891 to 1916, the school quickly became the most highly rated secondary educational institution for blacks in the country. Transcribe Ella B. Howard Pearis' 1923 Dunbar autograph book to help us learn more about the early graduates of this historic school.
