About the Project

Robert Hutchings Goddard’s "A method of reaching extreme altitudes," published 1919 in Smithsonian Miscellaneous Collections, is considered the first practical treatise on the use of rockets for space travel. Goddard is also credited with building the world’s first liquid-fuel rocket and is widely considered the person who ushered in the space-age.
