Transcription
studied principally the recent [[+?]] fossil shells but have a slight knowledge of chemistry and practical mineralogy. Salary is no particular object, if I could clear my expenses, and make collections which would be valuable to science and which I might [[underlined]] study [[underlined]], after returning. During the summer I have been clerk, timekeeper, paymaster etc, to some 80 men in the mining region. With Col. Foster my relations have ever been of the the happiest nature, but I do not like to be on the hooks, as to what is to be expected from the Comp.
