[[strikethrough]] [[stamped]] CONFIDENTIAL [[/stamped]] [[/strikethrough]] Page 2. SUBJECT: Monthly Activity Report. March 8, 1944. [[dashed line]] 3. [[underlined]] Western Sector Chief Pilot system [[/underlined]] was established. The initial conference for this purpose was held in Calcutta, starting February 14th -- the undersigned attended. Preparation for this conference included adaptation to needs of Western Sector of the Standard Technical Procedures previously written for Eastern Sector. This was principally changing C-46 procedures to fit C-47's. Approximately fifty (50) additional Standard Technical Procedure rough drafts were written. Emphasis during the conference was on instrument flying. Each Chief Pilot attending was checked in instrument flying in accordance with AAF Reg. 50-3. 4. [[[underlined]] Instrument Flight Boards [[/underlined]] to perform checks under AAF Reg. 50-3 were established at most stations of the Wing. Courses in instrument flight training air and ground ( including Link Trainer ) were started in order to bring to a satisfactory level those pilots who cannot presently meet the requirements of 50-3. 5. [[underlined]] Wing Instructor School [[/underlined]] was established at Gaya. First class consisted of the following Western Sector personnel: 4 First Pilots 4 Co-Pilots 1 Assistant Chief Pilot 1 Engineering Officer 4 Mechanics The Chief Pilot and the Chief Engineering Officer ^[[of Western Sector]] On February 29th this class started training in the operation and maintenance of the C-46. A Link Trainer has been assigned to the school and will be installed immediately. The C-46 Mobile Training Unit has been transferred to Gaya to aid in the C-46 training program for Western Sector. Mr. Merkel, Curtiss Wright Technical Representative, reported for duty with the Wing Instructor's School. -2- [[strikethrough]] [[stamped]] CONFIDENTIAL [[/stamped]] [[/strikethrough]]
