Philadelphia, ^[[September 1]] 187^[[6]] [[/preprinted]] Prof. Spencer F. Baird Rep. Smithsonian Institution International Exhibition Dear Sir, I am in receipt of checks in favor of the Adams Express Co for $29.99 accompanied by blank Receipt for signature and return in which it is expressed that the amount is in settlement of account of June (July?) 31 1876. The account sent form this office July 30 1876 was for $24.55 and was not receipted. Please inform me if said account has been increased in amount and receipted by the Carrier in order that it may be properly entered on the records of the Bureau. I have had no advice of its having been returned for receipt or of any alteration in the account. Very respectfully Your obt. servant John F.
