- 109 - [[underline]] Policy on Gifts for Services [[/underline]] The Secretary introduced an informal offer from a private business to tender a substantial gift to the Institution in return for advertising in [[underline]] Smithsonian [[/underline]] Magazine. The consensus of the Regents was that, as a policy, the Institution should not accept a gift in exchange for services in kind. [[underline]] The Retirement of Dorothy Rosenberg [[/underline]] The Regents noted with pleasure the award of the Secretary's Meal for Exceptional Service to Dorothy Rosenberg at the dinner the preceding evening at the Freer Gallery of Art. At the suggestion of Mr. Webb the Chancellor, the Regents approved the following resolution: VOTED that the Board of Regents anticipates with regret the retirement of Dorothy Rosenberg from her duties as Executive Assistant to the Secretary and as a mainstay of the Board. In serving the Regents for over two decades Mrs. Rosenberg has been effective through exceptional soundness of judgement, resourcefulness, devotion to the ideals of the Institution, and above all, unfailing graciousness. With gratitude and respect, the Regents wish her all the happiness in the future. [[underline]] Next Meeting [[/underline]] Regents Dinner: Sunday, January 27, 1980 Board of Regents Meeting: Monday, January 28, 1980, 9:30 a.m. [[underline]] Adjournment [[/underline]] The Regents meeting adjourned at approximately 11:15 a.m. and was followed by an informal luncheon in the Regents Room. Respectfully submitted, [[signature]] S. Dillon Ripley Secretary
