remarquée à l'époque; acheté, peu avant le Salon, par Arago, ce qui mentionne le livret: <<Appartient à M. Arago>> (Chassériau expose à ce même Salon le portrait d'Arago). L'oeuvre est très romantique, et ne rappelle pas Ingres, mais plutot Géricault (ainsi que l'esquisse de l'[[underlined]] Enfant prodigue [[/underlined]], que j'ai également retrouvée, et publiée, il y a quelques années). Ce n'est pas un éminent chef-d'oeuvre, mais c'est une oeuvre particulièrement attachante, non seulement par son histoire dans la carrière de l'artiste, mais par le sentiment pressant, l'élégance de la forme. Tout le Chassériau intime est contenu dans cette peinture, sagement et adroitement peinte. La peinture est encore inconnue; je n'en ai parlé nulle part.
