them, besides, both he and Mr Little would loose their services. Immediately upon my return I wrote Mr Little the result of my efforts to secure the return of his hands, but from a renewal of his complaints I presume he has not then received it. He might easily have had his contracts approved by me had he taken the trouble to make known his wants. From my experience with freedmen I am satisfied that these hands would be of little or no service if forced to return and I so informed him in my letter.
