Lexington, N.C. Oct. 30, 1866 W.F. Henderson H 1 vol.2 B.R.F. and A.L. N.C. Applies to be re-appointed Agent of the Bureau R.F. & A.L. for Davidson County, having taken the oath required of him with modifications. Bureau of R F & A L Office Supt West Dist NC Salisbury Nov. 1 1866 Respectfully forwarded to Head Qs of the Asst Comr with the recommendation that Mr. Henderson be re-appointed Agent of this Bureau for Davidson County. During the time he served as such, he performed the duties with zeal and integrity. His influence in his section of Country amongst both white and Black is considerable, and from what I can learn, has always been exercised for the benefit of both. As he only held the office of a Justice of the Peace under a commission dated as far back as 1852 and during the war did not exercise it for any political purpose, but only to preserve order in the community in which he resided, I think he could have conscientiously taken the required oath without any modifications whatever. John R. Edie Brevet Col USA Supt. EB 140
