[[embossed stamp with image of North Carolina Capitol]] Bureau of R. F. and A. Lands. Office Sub Asst. Comr. Sub Dist. No 3. New Berne N. C. August 31. 1867 Lt. Col. J. F. Chur A. A. A. Genl Raleigh N. C. Colonel I have the honor to Report that my Ration Return for the month of August 1867, called for 10.013. Rations for issue to Destitute Refugees and Freedmen of which number I have drawn from Lt. B. Aldrich, Act'g Depot C. S. and issued to Destitute Refugees and Freedmen 8.772 Rations, which leaves 1.241 Rations to complete the amount my Ration Return called for. On the 23rd of August 1867, a Telegram Order was received by Lt. B. Aldrich Act'g Depot C. S. from Genl. Burns Chief Com. S. directing him to issue no more Rations except to Sick in Hospitals and Orphans in authorized Asylums; consequently no rations have been issued to the Destitute since that date.
