Salisbury. N. C. December. 4th 1867. Gen Miles. Sir by request I write to you in regard to a Savings Bank for the Coloured men of Salisbury & Rowan. Co. a meeting was held last night by some of the citizens here and a company organised. There was twenty four (24) of the most prominent coloured men present. and each agread to deposite from ($10) to ($50) ten to fifty dollars a piece as a start. The matter has been generally discussed Since you were here and I think almost every one will encourage the enterprise. The meeting last night elected the folowing named officers President Rev. Thomas. Henderson Directors P. C. Hall. William Holmes Jos. Ballard T. M. Ballard Peter. Hargrove Harrison Kesler. They request that you will correspond with the Secretary immediately. and inform them how to proceed in regard to a charter and other regulations. Respectfully yours C. S. Moring. Sec.
