[[preprinted]] Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Land Headquarters Sub-Asst. Commissioner, Sub-District, No. 10, Morganton, N.C., [[/preprinted]] Nov. 4th [[preprinted]] 1867. [[/preprinted]] Bt. Lt. Col. Jacob F. Chur; A.A.A.G. Raleigh, N.C. Colonel: I have the honor to report the case of Mr. Archibald Berry, aged 82 years, a resident of Burke County, who has applied at these Head Quarters to be relieved from the support of two maimed and helpless colored boys, whom he "raised", and who now live with him. James, one of the said boys, is 19 years of age; is "a smart boy", but is badly crippled by Rheumatism; yet can ride horse-back. Harry, the other, is about 14 years of age; is smart, but had both hands, and a portion of his arms amputated, last Fall. — the result of being drawn into a Molasses Mill. Mr. Berry states that he would gladly provide for them, if he was able to do so; but he is poor, and incapacitated from labor
