N. 1, Vol 1 '68 Raleigh N. C. Jany. 14. 1868 N. 75. 1868. N C North Carolina Bvt Lt. Col. Jacob F Churr Actg Asst. Adjt Genl. Recommends (in absence of Asst. Commr.) that authority be granted to issue transportation for not exceeding 200 Freedpeople liable to become dependent upon the Govt for support, to such points in the [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] western part of the State where they will be employed at fair wages, in the construction of a Railroad, "by a gentleman whose character has been vouched for [[stamp]] BUREAU OF R. F. & A. L [[C?]] Q. M.[[17?]] 1868 [[/stamp]] EB. 1101 Vol 2 1867-8 War Dept. BRF & AL. Office Chf. Qr Master Washington Jany 17' 68 Respectfully returned. — The Assistant Commissioner of this Bureau for North Carolina is authorized to issue transportation for not exceeding (200) two hundred freedpeople liable to become dependent upon the Government for support, for the purposes indicated in the within communication. He will, in addition to the Monthly Report of Transportation issued, forward to these Head-quarters a special Monthly Report of transportation issued under this authority.— This report should be in the form prescribed by Circular Letter issued by the Commissioner June 3. 1867 (copy enclosed) By Command of Maj Genl.
